Welcome to America!

Marta our exchange student from Spain came last week.

I think we were all nervous to meet her because none of us speak Spanish. She speaks some English, way better than I would speak Spanish if I went to Spain. In the week that she has been here she has gotten even better. Ron is the funniest to see talk to her. He speaks REALLY loud....like she's deaf. He is doing better now and we all actually communicate really well. She is so fun and fits into our family perfectly.

She brought us gifts from Spain. The fan I am holding is one of them. It's beautiful and I'm getting better at opening it as fast as she does.

Nelson & Cullan really like Marta. She is great to play games with them. She brought them Hats from Spain...and they love them!

Here we are at the Opening Social for all 19 students. Nelson is wearing the shirt that Marta brought him.

Here is Victor showing Nelson on his shirt where the running of the bulls is. We never knew it was so far. Victor is staying with a family right around the corner from us. He is fun!

Our family with Marta
This was before church on Sunday. None of the students from Spain are LDS and she was a little nervous to go to church with us. But she had an awesome time; especially with Darrin Henry as her Sunday School teacher. What a Hoot!
After church we had Paul, Laura and Parker over to meet Marta and eat.
Swim Meet
On Saturday we had another swim meet. Ron got this cool picture of Austin diving off the blocks!
Here is Nelson getting ready to dive
Cullan swimming the breaststroke
Friday night we went with 2 other families in our ward that have exchange students to the canyon for dinner
Wow a spanish game -UNO!! Haha!
Marta told us on the way home that in Spain they never have picnics. She also played Ultimate frisbee, horseshoes and baseball....3 things she has never done before.
Austin climbing a tree in the canyon
Chuchee Cheese(thats what Parker calls him)
Parker had a blast at Chuck E. Cheese on Thursday. He just ran around like crazy finding all the pictures of Chuck E. Cheese and yelling "Chuchee Cheese"

Hi!! I'm sorry but I found your blog by chance and it just reminded me of my time as an exchange student in Utah, with the Barlows, from Fruit Heigths.
My name is Marta too and I'm from Madrid, Spain!! I'm a LDS and I went to Utah in Summer 1992 and 1993. It was awsome. I just wanted to thank you all host families for letting us have this wonderful experience, learn English and things from your culture.
And I hope Marta has a great time there with you and enjoys a lot every single thing!!!
Best wishes!!
Marta
